Hello, I'm Paul Clifford, a bassist/multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. This website is part of my MA project Improvised Music in Kingston via the department of Cultural Studies at Queen's University.
For my project work, I formed a Group of improvising musicians who are working locally. I interviewed each of them individually regarding their own improvisational practice, their experiences playing improvised music in a group, and their take on the Kingston music scene(s) as it relates to their practice.
We also met for group workshops and gathered in-person to create the Music you will find here. You can hear excerpts from these interviews combined with the music we created as a series of Podcasts.

This project started in Fall 2020 and ran through until Spring 2023. During this time we all experienced the global COVID-19 pandemic which limited our chances to gather and our careers as local musicians. Regardless, we were able to meet with each other, stay in touch, and share our music. I hope you enjoy listening!
